Covid-19 has a lot to answer for. It’s kept us away from friends and family, put our jobs at risk, taken millions of lives and made billions of us feel like we have the worst hangover ever.
It’s also been a real killjoy when it comes to romance.
Millions of singletons everywhere rely on online dating as a way to virtually meet before the inevitable face to face meet up and it’s stopped a lot of lonely hearts from being, well, lonely.
Whilst online dating is more popular than ever, the prospect of actually meeting someone anytime soon is pretty grim. So, we’ve had to adjust.
But it’s not all bad. There are many ways that you can continue to date, we just need to look at it like another ‘new normal’. At least we know this one will be temporary.
Online dating is supposed to be fun so don’t stop at the chat. Get together and plan a virtual date. There are loads of things you can do together without leaving the house (oi oi, I’m keeping it clean) so I thought I would share a few ideas to inspire you.
You’ll have so much fun that you will want to know how to meet more people and get more dates to share them with.
My virtual dating ideas for 2021
Virtual dating happy hour
A simple one that takes little organisation, just a couple of bottles added to the shopping list.
After a tough day/week in work, settle in with a glass or two and relax over a virtual call. Drink, chat and unwind together whilst you share your day.
Virtual truth or dare
This is a fun way to get to know each other better. Ask each other questions and when someone takes the dare, challenge them to show you what’s in their bathroom cupboard or show you the messiest room in the house.
Virtual dating cook-off
We all know that food plays a huge part when it comes to love and there’s no reason that virtual dating should be any different.
Plan it in advance, buy the same ingredients, make sure you both know the menu and cook it together.
Virtual art competition
If you’re a little on the creative side, get the canvas out and make art together. If you’re rubbish at drawing, turn it into a competition where you each have to draw random things. It’s guaranteed to get a giggle!
Virtual music quiz
Get to know each other’s taste in music by playing your favourite tracks. You could turn it in to a ‘name that tune’ type game.
Virtual tours
Online tours have been a huge hit during lockdown and there’s no reason you can’t take part in one together. Sign up for the same event and then get together virtually later to discuss it.
Virtual wine-tasting
Who doesn’t love a good excuse for a glass of wine? To make it fun, why not order each other a few bottles of wine for them to try and then compare. Don’t forget to spit though!
Virtual film night
There is nothing better than snuggling up on the sofa and watching a good movie together. We may not be able to do that right now, but we can virtually experience it. In fact, have the laptop or phone next to you on the sofa and it will feel like the real thing (almost!)
Virtual masterclass
How much fun would it be to take an online class together? What about cocktail making or a cooking class? You could enjoy it together and share the highlights later.
Virtual walk
We live in an age where the internet comes everywhere with us and now there’s no need to miss out on those romantic walks together.
Virtual games
For an evening of fun, why not go for a game of virtual scrabble or bingo? This would be the perfect icebreaker.
Virtual dates may not seem as good as the real thing but look at it this way. It’s a great way to break the ice and get to know each other better before you get to meet for the first time. By the time that actually happens, you’ll feel like you’re meeting an old friend.
Bottom line? Just have fun and enjoy it. The world is a strange place right now and virtual dating could be just what the doctor ordered.
Enjoy and don’t forget to let me know if you try any of them.
